Red10 League
This is the page for the original league which started in September 2021. It is based on a 10 minute time control. We are calling it the Red10 League.
In February 2022 we are starting, in addition, the Blue15 League based on a 15 minute time control. Go to the Blue15 League page to register to play in that league.
League Organisation
The League Manager for the Red League is Nick Sampays from Ross on Wye U3a handing over to
Larry Hartley from the Stanway U3a once the new system is proved. The leagues run on a calendar monthly cycle. When you register to join the Leagues you will be included in the next available month in the lowest division.
When the league manager has a batch of 6 players he will email all of them with the names and email addresses of the players. It is up to each player to contact the others to make arrangements to play.
You will have until the end of the calendar month before that month’s round closes.
Other points:-
- Time control of 10 minutes per person. This means each player starts with 10 mins + 0 increments on the clock so a game will last no more than 20 minutes.
- Two games to play against each opponent; one as white and one as black. Decide who is White (Player1) for the first game. Player1 only to submit both game results on the Match Results Form.
- Normally each Division will consist of 6 players unless there are an odd number of players wanting to play. So each month you have 5 opponents to play.
- Promotion/relegation
- Once the league manager has determined how many players will be in each division for the next period, players will be assigned to divisions based on their performance in the previous period – first points scored, then who beat who. If two players are still tied, who is promoted or relegated will be decided by tossing a coin. Normally for a division of 6 players 2 are promoted and 2 relegated.
- We have a changing membership, which often leads to different division sizes from one period to the next. This can make it difficult to determine how many should be promoted and relegated, and where to insert new players. It is hard to define a simple rule that would meet all situations. So, this is left to the league manager’s discretion, but using the principle that a player entering the league for the first time, or re-entering the league after a period of absence, should be placed in the division which most closely matches their skill level. This is defined by their current chess.com rating.
- All matches to be played on Chess.com
There are 30 – 40 people playing in the Red10 league. To join this league register here.
Joining Form
We have changed the match results form to properly reflect the scores and make it easier to automatically process the results using scripting languages. Please submit the results of your league matches before the end of the month. As previously a match is made up of two games. but now you record the actual results of each game Won 1-0, Draw 0.5 -0.5 or Lost 0-1. All selections on the Form are from a dropdown lists to make it easier and avoid errors entering results.
